Introduction - Gianni Rivera

Hello, my name is Gianni Rivera, I am from Ecuador and this is my second year in NJCU. I drew a lot as a kid but I last drew a few years ago. My major is computer science, technology fascinates me a lot and I am hoping to learn a lot about coding/ computer language this year. I like traveling with family and friends (mostly friends) and creating unforgettable memories with them. I had to say goodbye to my friend this winter break since he was leaving for another state very far away. I have a wonderful family and I am the oldest one so I always have to keep watch of my little sister and protect her from anything dangerous. I love cooking and baking it makes me relaxed and is a fun way to pass the time. I also have a wonderful pug named Tobie he is about to be 5 years old at the start of February. I also love cats but I currently do not have one anymore because it sadly passed away. I also like exploring places at night

Quotes

"Most men never think about patriarchy- what it means, how it is created and sustained. Many men in our nation would not be able to spell the word or pronounce it correctly."

What this is trying to say is men don't care about obtaining further knowledge about this because it doesn't fall into their categories of problems.

"When I responded with rage at being denied a toy, I was taught as a girl in a patriarchal household that rage was now an appropriate feminine feeling, that it should not only not be expressed but be eradicated. When my brother responded with rage at being denied a toy, he was taught as a boy in a patriarchal household that his ability to express rage was good but that he had to learn the best setting to unleash his hostility.

Only men are allowed to express their rage but women should not express rage at all (I think is what this is trying to say.

"Similarly, memes offer a highly accessible and interactive platform of production that is ripe for challenge and dissent, with disagreements and controversy only fueling the fire of a successful meme truly going viral. "

It is straightforward for memes to go viral via platforms so it's easier to use memes to communicate with each other

“Narratives matter.…Pictures don’t speak for themselves,” he said, arguing that memes are not just jokes, but rather have the potential to be more sinister than what meets the eye.

Memes aren't just to laugh at they can also be used for evil stuff and should not be underestimated. People are so crafty they can find multiple ways to destroy people's lifes with memes

"Most people interact with these images in fleeting ways as they scroll through their feeds, but creating or consuming political memes that align with one’s point of view can be therapeutic."

Memes are so common they can be used to distribute political beliefs. I can say this is true because I don't really car about politics and they somehow still manage to sneak some in on my feed

Memes can spread far more quickly than the songs or art projects of previous generations, and there’s such a low barrier to entry that anyone can make them; they can go viral in a matter of minutes.

This is so true because many people can be famous by just constantly making memes that people find enjoyable and they are very easy to make.
