Introduction
My name is Giselle Verdin and I am 19 years old and currently my major is undecided but I'm looking to go into maybe marketing, or business. My goal in life is to be successful because I know that I was destined to be someone in my life the only thing is figuring out what that is. Little by little as I start taking more classes or gaining knowledge I will then decide on a major. I'm the type of person that likes to to do anything because I am very openminded and creative. I'm also a very big cat person I love them so much, they are just little blessings on earth.
Quotes:
Understanding Patriarchy
"Most men never think about patriarchy- what it means, how it is created and sustained. Many men in our nation would not be able to spell the word or pronounce it correctly."
It goes to show how little people are interested to obtain further knowledge about patriarchy especially the men because it not only affects women but them as well and they just live by it.
"Despite the contemporary visionary feminist thinking that makes clear that a patriarchal thinker need not be a male, most folks continue to see men as the problem of patriarchy. This is simply not the case. Women can be as wedded to patriarchal thinking and action as men."
I agree with this because not only are men implementing that rules are rules and a man has to assert their domination but also the women are pushing these ideas further into their head by simply allowing it. It goes back to that saying of "Boys will be boys" when it should not be like that.
What memes owe to Art History
"Through an ironic and playful treatment of a fragmented subject, memes break down high and low culture, disrupting ideas of authenticity and originality."
Modern arts is now using the internet to expose memes as they are easy to make and easy to share. However though they get a message across to people in light entertainment as it is a form of expression of how one feels and thinks.
"Similarly, memes offer a highly accessible and interactive platform of production that is ripe for challenge and dissent, with disagreements and controversy only fueling the fire of a successful meme truly going viral."
Memes are ideas that can capture the attention of others to make them them think about a situation whether it has a good or bad connotation. It goes viral off anything if its shared enough or even it brings controversy that will get the people talking which is always good.
Memes are our Generation's Protest Art
“Memes help to articulate specific points, amplify ideas, and intensify emotions,” Burroughs said. “Something can be comedic or a joke and still be incredibly poignant.”
I agree with the statement above because memes are used for comedy relief but they don't go ignore as they leave a powerful message to get across to people.
"You can express yourself with one picture of a meme better than a whole page of text,” Alan Schaaf, the CEO of image-hosting site Imgur, told VICE."
It's a form of expression within modern arts and it so much easier to attain information. One gets comfortable with memes and because we form a connection with these memes we find them to be relatable as well.
