                                                 This is what I know about Art

Quote: “In all honesty, I never thought that I'd write anything that would find an audience.”

Response: I can honestly agree to this because whenever I create some type of artwork and display it I never really think that people would be so interested into what my artwork is or I find it hard to find an audience that focuses on what I have to say. I mean I post my artwork to social media and the few responses I get are always from my friends.

Quote: “ For so many young people of color, we feel like we don’t have the luxury of exploring the liberal arts—society tells us that we have to take coursework to become high earners to make valuable contributions to the world.”

Response: This is so relatable because honestly as a person of color we are pushed to focus on other things rather than exploring the liberal arts. We can not really rely on exploring outside topics. Were pushed to go the extra mile to get a better outcome in life. Although, it is nice to be encourage there is always like the possibilities of what one can do outside of that.

Quote:“When I wasn’t at work or hustling to art events for free food, I continued to cultivate my blog. It was my refuge.”

Response: As a collage student I understand the struggle of having to hustle in order to survive. In the quote above the author explains if she was not working or hustling she would be writing in her blog. It was her safe space and in a way a sense of freedom. It was an escape from reality.

This artwork was by Kerry James Marshall and this portrait really stood out to me because I got a different understanding from what this artwork could possibly mean. From the portrait I believed that this was suppose to highlight or shed light on maybe how people of darker complexion are viewed. The description for the portrait said it was the artist as a shadow of his former self. The way the portrait was drawn was to capture the attention or make it visibly known of his artwork.
