Risking a $1'000 World Cup 2026 Tickets
Money can be essential, but more than 800 dollars for tickets for a major tournament is needed. Last year, the President of Fifa, Gianni Infantino, announced that The Fifa World Cup 2026 is coming to the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The World Cup tickets in 2026 will now be around 800-2,000 dollars. This is happening in the United States right now. Last year, there was a soccer match where Inter Miami was taking on New York Red Bull, and the prices were around 500-800 dollars for a reason, which is because there was a famous soccer player named Lionel Messi, who fans say is the reason why the tickets prices were like this. And now there is an upcoming cup called the Copa America, rumored to be 200-900. Most people think it is because Argentina and Brazil are more famous teams, and that's why that is being charged, which is ridiculous. But ticket websites and stadiums need to explain why they charge these tickets at these prices.
It is a great idea to make this poster, and this is for people to understand this and see that this can happen in 2026 when a big major tournament will spend a lot of money. Mostly, the group stage matches will be cheaper, like $200-$500, but when it comes to the round of 16 and final, it will be around $ 500- $ 2'000 because significant teams will be playing. There will be a performance during the World Cup final and seeing the team lifting the trophy, and primarily, the US will risk making the tickets expensive, which is mainly the risk for the Super Bowl, which is costly at this time. The Super Bowl tickets were $950-$9,350, which is more entertaining in the United States. The Super Bowl brings ceremonies, and according to CBS, they said the Super Bowl could be because of the profits, which show how the business can be by putting up expensive tickets and offering the solution for workers to be paid. This can indicate that the United States can bring more prices up since that's been happening right now with prices increasing for things people buy daily.
Some research was done where I double-checked how much the World Cup tickets were during 2014, 2018, and 2022. In 2014, the tickets were around 175-900; during the 2014 World Cup, Brazilian students and residents got a discount, and Brazilian residents paid about 340 dollars for the group stage matches. This is because from 2014 to 2016, there were protests in Brazil where they had poor schools, hospitals, and public services. 2018, which was 200-1,530, but during the finals of the FIFA World Cup, people started to sell the tickets for around $ 2'500 mostly because the finals were a significant event and had two interesting national teams that were underdogs, too. And the 2022 World Cup sells their tickets for around 300-2,000 dollars.
After making this poster, I spoke to half my friends and family about it. This is what they said.
Here is one quote that shows how I can explain my activist work
"You will have your unique idea of what led to stepping off the curb. Whatever it was, it was likely a powerful experience. You can probably feel this experience better than you can explain it, and words (or even images) may feel inadequate for capturing it".
This quote supported me in making these posters and showed that I can try to make one artwork that can inspire me to do so. This is spreading a message about something that can happen in the future and primarily affects people who want to experience it and have a chance to see a major tournament with a cheaper option.
"Facts are important, and truth should be the foundation of our analysis, our actions, and the worlds we create. But facts and truth don't speak for themselves. They need to be made into symbols and incorporated into stories that people can make sense of and care about".
I agree because I am sending a message and want the federation to know that making the tickets cost this amount of money is not worth it. The truth is that the only people who can afford it are wealthy people who can afford it. But mostly, I show something for a message and post it for people to see, which I am trying to do, and I show this to the federation to see that this matters to people. Who is not trying to take the risk of buying a thousand-dollar ticket. I feel like I have the right to say and show something that the federation can see and make the tickets affordable for people.
I put the posters in my job, which is in 7-Eleven, where I put in these places where people can wander around looking for products. One customer was interested in looking at this and mentioned that it is reasonable. Most agree with this because this can happen, and most people will save this type of money for tickets to watch a great soccer team play in major tournaments. There needs to be a reason why the tickets are costing like this. But the person said 1,000 thousand dollars is not worth it for a major tournament.
I spoke with a couple of my friends and my cousin, who saw this:
