Intervention- Giselle Verdin

Description of my poster: For my project I decided to focus on the Importance of Mental Health. I incorporated the idea of an advertisement promoting the importance of mental health like a flyer for renting a room. What my idea consisted of was basically putting out an advertisement out for the world to inform themselves. At the bottom instead of adding a phone number I included some reasonings as to why mental health is important and some pictures that correlate with it. I went around my neighborhood asking strangers and some of my neighbors if they knew some reasonings of the importance of mental health.

The majority opinion on mental health is that it is essential to general wellbeing and life satisfaction. Making mental health a priority is crucial for people to live resilient, successful, and satisfying lives. People with good mental health are better able to manage stress, build wholesome relationships, make wise decisions, and successfully deal with life's obstacles. However, neglected mental health problems can negatively affect relationships, productivity, general happiness, and physical health. Society benefits from investments made in mental health promotion, prevention, and treatment, in addition to the person. We can establish supportive settings that promote resilience and well-being by de-stigmatizing mental health illnesses, expanding access to mental health treatments, and raising public knowledge of mental health issues.

Quote:

“Art is highly effective at translating events, facts, and ideologies into stories, images, and performances, making objective things into subjective forms we can experience, feel, and, importantly, remember.” (Page 25)

Response:

Through art, we may express thoughts and sentiments that are incomprehensible to us or give them a form that makes them more understandable to others. With art, we can create and then experience things that would otherwise be unthinkable. Raising awareness, evoking feelings, encouraging conversation, empowering communities, igniting change, altering cultural norms, and maintaining movements are just a few of the objectives that art activism achieves. It is a potent weapon for achieving justice, equality, and human rights as well as a catalyst for social change.

Quote:

We’re moved by affective experiences to take physical actions that result in concrete effects: affect produces effect. And concrete effects have affective impact, generating personal emotion: effect produces affect.” (Page 29)

Response:

Though the effects of art activism could differ based on the situation, target audience, and media, its enduring legacy is its capacity to uplift communities, foster social justice movements, and inspire optimism. Art, a dynamic and ever-evolving kind of activism, keeps pushing limits, starting conversations, and imagining different futures all of which serve as examples of creativity's enduring capacity to effect positive change.
