Week 3/chapter1

Art activism is a way artists use to help people to live the past and a way of asking for a change, as this artwork shows. pretty much how thing used to be back in then and now activists are asking for changes.

Reading chapter one quotes:

“If knowledge is power, and knowledge is now so freely available, then why does power still remain firmly in the hands of a few? Something is wrong with the equation.”(pg22)

This quote caught my attention because it is something that many people have thought of daily, and it is also a question we still need to get a clear answer to. The higher-ups often push some narratives on others to get them to believe in certain things. However, these narratives are far from the truth. Although Knowledge might be free, there's inequality in who can access specific resources and who gets certain opportunities, which is an issue that needs to be addressed.

“Facts are important, and truth should be the foundation of our analysis, our action, and the worlds we create. But facts and the truth don't speak for themselves. They need to be made into symbols, and incorporated into stories that people can make sense of and care about. They need our help.”(pg24)

This quote reminds me of another quote from our previous reading where the author mentioned that "Activism is foreign to many people and a bit daunting." Many people sometimes need to be aware of the issue activism is fighting against because they don't know the truth. It is sometimes true that we don't get told the truth by the people with the power, and I also think that these people try their best to keep the truth away from us. However, many of us know our rights and see the truth, and we must turn them into symbols and incorporate stories to help people understand so they can step off the curb for a change.
