"This is why early civil rights activists dressed in coats and ties and the Black Panthers wore leather and berets: both communicate a message, to different audiences and in different contexts. Perhaps more important, people associate the very idea of activism with how we present ourselves. But style is not just about, or even primarily about, what we wear: it’s about the overall image we project"(110).

It is important to be intentional with your appearance because it plays a role in how you are perceived. That does not mean to dress as society seems acceptable. When there is a controversial and intense cause, like the blank panther's, wearing a beret creates character and communicates with different audiences in different settings.

“We often act as if people are encyclopedias in the making, waiting to be filled up with facts and figures. They aren’t.”

Most people just like the idea of forcing their ideals on people without any act of persuasion. This quote is very true, but underappreciated. Because society agrees with them, people try to get you to agree with them, but that shouldn’t be the case, since people rarely fight for what they do not believe in. It's also important to make an effort to make someone understand if they aren't, because some people process differently.

“We wondered how we might “move the point” on escape and make political engagement something that veterans would want to escape to rather than from.”

This is interesting topic to delve on, because to change the perspective of veterans who have associated politics with corruption and war is a huge task. With the world being so corrupt nowadays, politics pays a huge toll in decreasing panic and worry, but most tend to do the opposite. I believe everyday can see that there is never total truth to politics, so it may not be an easy escape tool for most veterans.

“We’re taught to believe that artists create things that are new, unique, and absolutely their own. This is not true. “

- This is definitely not true most artists recreate what they see, and inspiration plays a big factor on the output. They are also influenced by a variety of factors, including cultural, historical, and personal influences.

Yoko Ono, the lady in this photo, made an intervention where she was the objectification of women's bodies and the manner in which they are often treated as objects. As if her experience were the body of someone close or significant, viewers are forced to reflect on their own views on consent, agency, and power in light of Ono's vulnerability to accept the acts of others.

Shaun Leonardo wanted to tackle the idea of men showing their feelings and how society views masculinity. He shared how he grew up without seeing men in his family cry, which made him think guys weren't supposed to show emotions. So, he decided to act out scenes where men were struggling and defeated to prove it's totally okay for guys to express themselves emotionally.
