This Is
What I Know About Art
Part
1
How do
these readings connect to the themes and issues we have been discussing?
There
are many issues we are facing in the world that are affecting art culture in
massive ways. The destruction of homes and properties due to failure to
maintain healthy living conditions, people are suffering from poverty still in
many countries, and we as people are to blame. We all have a complex figure and
high mental compacity for information pertaining to the life changes we go
through, and authoritative figures are going to be blamed while the generations
to come have to endure the crises worldwide. We are connected to each other
through emotions and the issues we face happening everyday are televised
nationally. It has a mental impact on the people who are facing life changes
within the economy, and it has left a strain of doubt for our people. The
themes are very creative, but they usually consist of a geographic meaning or
some sort of agricultural vibe striking the nation with its artistic view of
the world we are living in today.
How can
authors, historians and curators also be activists?
Historians,
authors, and curators are chosen within their guidelines. They have a choice to
continue working through their image and art or stand up and face the realities
of what’s going on in the world. They are self-aware of the consequences that
come with becoming a activist and even though we are not living in those rough
times people are still in danger. We are living in a ongoing crisis within the
economy and it’s hard to fight when you are alone in the world. It’s better to
relate to people to get the word out instead of doing all the work on your own,
yes historians have done it on their own but what about curators and authors.
The facts and research must be even to further the process of becoming an
activist and spreading the word to our generation to come.
What
moments in the Kimberly Drew book felt particularly pivotal and meaningful to
you?
The
book itself, “This is what I Know about Art,” is self-explanatory. She’s
already characterized as a beautiful artistic woman who is growing and
blossoming into the chaotic world, we all live in. She managed to make her own
path and give us knowledge based off her experience as an artist. People like
Kimberly Drew are unique and refined. They make the world a better place with
affirmative actions and sequences using the power of art, speech, and sign
language. She is her own queen in a sense and has a very popular taste for fine
painting and artwork. She is one of a kind and an extraordinary person.
How did
these lead to Drew's activism?
I’m
positive she got tired of the criticism of being an artistic woman at the time
and it led her to believe that she could change the world with her perspective
as she did. She single-handedly created and published her own book novel about
art and how she feels about the people who are criticized because of their
beliefs. Her emotions are deeply effective in her book, and she chooses to
strike the audience with her emotional creative perspective leaving you with
mind blowing thoughts and a book full of life and lessons. According to Hall
(2018) Kimberly Drew is learning artwork in museums to develop sign language.
What
quotes from her writing stuck out to you and why?
“I
never want my story to be defined by a string of heartbreaks.” Pg 27. This
quote stuck out the most to me because it was the first thing I saw as I opened
the book. Everyone has suffered a heart break once in their life whether it’s
losing someone, falling in love with the wrong person, putting your heart and
soul into a valued item and losing it in the end. It happens to us all and
that’s just how life is in a sense, you lose many important things in life, and
you just must understand nothing will last forever unless you as a person want
it to. Almost everything in this world has a purpose, it’s your choice to
define it in your way or just to leave it as it is.
Part Two:
When
I first saw this artwork the first thing, I thought of was the Olympics. I’m
not sure why but this art piece symbolizes all the track runners, the awards of
stars the trophy towards the right side of the picture and the different
texture and colors giving life to the art piece. This artwork is amazing with
high value and dedication from Ben Jones, and he gave it a awesome color
scheme. According to Genocchio (2009) Ben Jones is known for his imperative
artwork and dedication towards fashion.
From
my point of view this image relates to the black man living in the late 70’s.
On the brink of reaching the 1980’s he’s a young man stuck between fashion and
the verge of rap and hip hop. You can see the design and colors with its
translucent color theme and many dashes of color paint and drip falling to
represent swag in the 1980’s. This artwork is a masterpiece. According to Lanay
(2019) the body is a symbolic molecule condensed as a movement allowing it to
fill an artist's needs.
Ben
Jones artworks and critique are quite defined in a inter complex matter for
hope of the man and the dream to be made. He is defining the world and its
culture from a point that many people can’t see. That’s why I say his artwork
is transparent in a sense. You must understand his culture and why this art
piece was made to get a view of his ideal artwork. This is culture from many
generations and the significance of this art piece is historical.
