Intervention 3

 Destroy the Machine

My intervention is going to be a performance video about how the advancement of AI art program. People's likeness has been taken by companies bu using AI programs such as SORA to promote their products. Worse, having the AI program using them in order to spread false information. The advancement of AI program had put people into fear of their likeness being used in order to frame them for something or make them say something they wouldn't. Artists fears of AI had also increased, especially with due an upcoming/hyped movie using SORA AI. The increased fear of AI was even sparked due to sick individuals using people's photos and turning it into porn.

Artists’ Fears:

From my last intervention about AI, AI programs has advanced more throughout the time being. And with programs advancement's, companies have been using AI even more. Last month IFC films have went under fire due their use of AI art of their upcoming film “Late Night With the Devil”. Fans has voiced their disappointment and an boycott of the movie. The directors Cameron and Colin Carines of the films have posted a statement about their use of AI.

"In conjunction with our amazing graphics and production design team, all of whom worked tirelessly to give this film the 70s aesthetic we had always imagined, we experimented with AI for three still images which we edited further and ultimately appear as very brief interstitials in the film. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had such a talented and passionate cast, crew and producing team go above and beyond to help bring this film to life. We can’t wait for everyone to see it for themselves this weekend.”

Which still left an sour taste in people's mouths, especially since there's reviewers who watched the movie who said that there's all over it. An user on Twitter have posted the AI images that was in it.

This outrage about films use of AI have brought up the same argument. "Why couldn't they just hired an artist".

Artists Fears part 2:

Last  week, prestigious animation university Gobeilns have recently came under controversy due their support and endorsement of their students using AI for their website YANJIN. Concept artist Nicholas Kole who's work is known for Spyro and Crash Bandicoot and voice his disappointed with the school.

“… utter disrespect to your students and the legacy of great effort and art that has passed through their halls. Actually shocked by this,”

People have noiced the website YANJIN used of AI with inconsistencies, one of them being how the French Flag wasn't right.

And amongst the controversy people have discovered the school's 2 week courses that cost 950 euro ($1,570) that teaches on how to use the AI generator Midjounary. People have voiced their disappointment and outrage of the school. The course description reads...

“This training, made of three workshops, will allow you to familiarise yourself with Midjourney generative artificial intelligence in order to design illustrations."

The description was left to mockery, especially from RalphRee, anconcept artist work Assassin Creed, have said

“Writing a prompt and pressing [a] random button requires teaching…”

Mind you, Goebilns is the equivalent to Harvard. Their notable alumnis Pierre Coffin was co-director in "Despicable me" and "Minions" and Simon Otto was the head animator of "How To Train Your Dragon".

Why YOU should too be scare:

Many people have unfortunately came across of false information/proganda being spread thanks to the use of AI. When the Baltimore bridge fell, there was many fake AI created voice messages trying to spread false information or conspiracy theories. There was even a viral video of a woman believing that "Build-A-Bear" have a promotion called "Build-A- Bathament" which people like her, believe that it was real.

However, one an concern people should have is the uprising of third-party companies using people's videos and photos in order to promote an product they never heard before or saying things they never did. Law enforcement can't do anything about it due to these companies are overseas. The worse is that it's cheap and easy to make these fake ads. Hollywood have been trying to stop these AI ads and deepfakes by using another AI program called LOTI to take these videos down, but once it was on the internet it hard to take down.

There has also been a rise of AI pornographic images of random women. Many of these woman have been blackmail by random individuals into sending them money or worse. Unfortunately last month, an 14 year old girl have taken her life due bullying she has suffered from and one of her tormentors have allegedly made pornographic images of her by the use of AI. While reading more about the case, I have stumbled onto an reddit post taking about it and people who were making fun of the girl who have taken her life.

This and countless other victims of AI generated porn have not gotten justice due to there being no laws put in place. It is shocking and depressing that there no laws or attempts in order to stop AI using people's likeness or whatever nefarious reason.

For this intervention I’m debating if I want to post posters that understands artists fears about AI taking over or an performance art piece.
