2/7 Assignment - Giselle Verdin

                                                                          Chapter 1:

Quote: "Even today, totalitarian governments restrict access to information, ban books and artworks, and repress intellectuals, activists, and artists, fearful of any ideas that might challenge their official Truth. When the economy of information is one of scarcity, knowledge does equal power." Pg 22

Response: Prior to this quote there was a saying how "The truth shall set you free" and in the reading they brought up a point about how knowledge is power. This is all tree but to a certain extent. I say this because above in the quote they explain how if one is holds too much knowledge it is bad as it might throw off people and challenge their official truth. They limit ones power of gaining too much knowledge as they fear for the worst.

Quote: "Politics is about people’s perceptions of the truth, their feelings about facts, and their visceral experiences of the world." Pg 24

Response: This was something that I found interesting because personally I am not that involved in politics but this quote was an eye opener as it includes aspects of what politics truly is. Behind politics it involves one's perception of truth, feelings, and their own experience of the world is for them.

                                                                        Art Activism

Art Activism is art that allows us to imagine things that are unimaginable, and then to live them. The practice of artistic activism combines the strategic planning of activism which is required to effect social change with the creative ability of the arts to affect us emotionally. Activism is the process of questioning and challenging power dynamics. For example in the image above is a mime who used their act of humor to stop drivers from not following the rules on the road. This tactic was created by the Mayor of Bogota as he hired 420 mimes to direct traffic. This significantly helped as there were less accidents occurring.
