Colored Version
This poster is meant to draw in the eye, so that the passerby or the viewer is drawn in by the bright cute colors, but then they read the text at the bottom. Being given the real realization of what is happening in Florida and the risk it poses to young trans people and soon everyone as a whole. Because these bills do not just affect trans or lgbtq+ persons. These bills are already affecting the population that do not identify with the community, and this can only spread if we can't stop them.
Gov. DeSantis has been passing a number of anti-lgbtq+ bills since the "Don't Say Gay" Bill approved in 2022.
-----------------------------------------
Down below are only some of the Anti-Lgbtq Laws that have passed in Florida and are being considered or have been accepted by other states
From the site: Humans Rights Campaign
"Don't Say LGBTQ+ Expansion Bill (HB 1069): In an intentional effort to erase transgender and non-binary people from the curriculum, HB 1069 bans instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity from Pre-K through Grade 8, creates an anti-LGBTQ+ definition of sex based on reproductive function, and would force school staff and students to deadname and misgender one another. In April, Florida’s Board of Education also voted to expand Gov. DeSantis’s shameful “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” bill from 2022 to all grades."
"Extreme Gender Affirming Care Ban (SB 254): Even among the crowded field of extreme and damaging bans on best practice, age-appropriate health care, this bill stands out as particularly mean-spirited. SB 254 would penalize providers by inflicting criminal penalties (including felony penalties) on providers who give gender-affirming care; it would take licenses away from those providers; and it would prohibit Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care for transgender youth or adults. It would also forbid public funds, including those of a public university, public hospital, city or county, and Medicaid, from being used to provide benefits that include gender-affirming care – for transgender people of all ages. And – uniquely – it allows the state to use gender-affirming care or the “risk” of such care for a child as a reason to give Florida family courts exceptional jurisdiction to set aside another state’s custody determination. By singing this bill, DeSantis is disrespecting the United States Constitution as well as the rule of law, not to mention transgender Floridians, their families, and their medical care providers."
Anti-Trans Bathroom Bill (HB 1521): HB 1521 criminalizes transgender people for using the restroom that matches their gender identity. The bill prohibits gender-inclusive restrooms and changing facilities in schools, public shelters, healthcare facilities, and jails.
-----------------------------------------
These bills take away human autonomy and will not only affect the LGBTQ+ community. It's affecting livelihoods, its affecting medical care, its affecting families, it's so awful how these are being ignored and nobody is stopping them. Texas has already been extremely susceptible to these bills and is being even harsher.
These posters would be put up in places such as the major NJCU library, city hall, Town square, local malls, anywhere people would be most likely to stop and read, but then won't be able to turn away after reading the first part. Those who were ignorant opened themselves up to no longer being able to say, "I didn't know" and that will weigh on them.
Disturb the Comfortable
(I don't know how to turn this into a poster- plz help)
(nvm i found a solution)
(Ignore how poorly cropped these are)
So, I do not have anywhere to post these online, and when I got the time to go to the library... it was closed because of President's Day Weekend... so, I had to use my friends- I gave them the somewhat censored version. for anonymity I shall refer to them as Person 1, Person dos, and Person tri and show their responses in the form of discord message screenshots. I told them just to give me their first thoughts.

They said skill issue.., oh they meant on the guys okay-ing the bills and feeling threatened by good fashion. Phew, nevermind we're good.

Person Tri:
And this person just went on.. and on.. yeah they're upset about this, at least. That's a relief.
Though the important bit is whether or not they would have called their reps. Unfortunately, they all seemed to have the same response where they believed that their reps wouldn't listen to them. Which is really disappointing. The fact we're at this stage of feeling like the people representing us don't care about us. Clearly big change needs to happen and quick.
Bonus
Another friend who insisted I used Glitter on the poster, but I couldn't. They argued valiantly though so they shall get credited her.
