Intervention 1

 Black Men And Mental Health:

It is very stereotypical when it comes to black men and mental health. A lot of people in our generation think that men are weak if they cry or express their feelings about something. With this happening, a lot of men struggle with mental health and a lot of young men especially black men end up losing taking their life because of bad mental health and not having anyone help them because they are afraid to talk about what is going on. This has been going on for many years where black men are afraid to express their feelings and to even cry around people because they will be looked at as a “Female”. Men are human and have feelings just like Females so if Females are able to cry and express there feelings so should Men in my opinion. After researching, statistics say that 77% of men have suffered from negative mental health.

The main reason for my intervention was to promote that as a man and a black man specifically it is okay to cry and express their feelings because we deserve to be heard like everyone else, and besides you never know what someone else can do for you. The reason I decided to make the poster and add a hotline for mental was because some people do not like talking to people to ask for him so instead they can just type the phone number in there self. I put posters up on trees of different blocks where people past by the most.

A INTRODUCTION TO ACTIVIST ART: by Stefanie Graf

“When the public is looking away from suffering that could be prevented or does not want to be confronted with it, activist art often creates a dialogue and forces people to think about these problems.”

This quote stuck out to me because a lot of people do not pay attention to things unless they see it more than once. It is a scientific fact that when people see the same thing 7-10 times there are likely to take action. So this inspired me to put posters on the main blocks people walk so everyday when they walk past the signs they can stop and see what is actually trying to be promoted.

WHY ART ACTIVISM?:

“Activism moves the material world, while Art moves the heart, body and soul. In fact they are complimentary. Social change doesn’t just happen, it happens because people decide to make change. As any seasoned activist can tell you, people just don’t decide to change their mind and act accordingly, they are personally moved to do so by emotionally powerful stimuli.”

This is another quote that stood out to me by making my poster because people need something to catch their attention and their soul in order to pay attention to something and wanting to do something about it. If you put up a beautiful art work with bright colors that has a powerful message being stated then people will most likely want to know what message is trying to be spread and what they can do to contribute to that problem.
