 Chapter 7 Quotes and Response:

“When it comes to artistic activism, questions of “what works?” and “how do we know?” are

difficult to answer.”

The statements suggests that by determining the effectiveness of artistic activism and learning

about its impact can be challenging. Artistic activism has many ways of operating such as aiming

to provoke a thought, strike an emotion, or initiate social change.

“Activists engage in planning campaigns all the time, but popular understandings of political

activism tend to downplay their importance.”

The previously stated remark implies that although campaign preparation is a common practice

among activists, the public's overall opinion of political activity typically downplays or ignores

the importance of these planned attempts. This includes by setting up a goal, identifying target

audiences, creating a message, specific methods, and more.

For my final intervention my project will be focus on addressing the stigma surrounding

mental health and promote empowerment through art activism. Motivated by the approaches and

techniques covered in our assigned readings, especially the utilization of visual art and

community engagement, I intend to arrange a group mural project in a public area. People will be

able to share their experiences with mental health and convey messages of hope, resiliency, and

unity through the mural. But I’m still not too sure if I will stick with the idea I might change the

topic.
