Understanding that people often have more than one mind when it comes to an issue is not about pointing out their logical fallacies:

“How can you call yourself pro-life when you support war?” People are inconsistent, and pointing this out will not further your cause. We need to recognize that people are full of contradictory ideas, then bypass the ideas and associations that run counter to our objectives. Then we can focus in on and work with the ones that can help us. 193

This quote shows how complicated people's views are and how important it is to deal with them in a smart way instead of just pointing out logical problems. It shows how important it is to recognize that people have ideas and associations that are at odds with each other. Instead of addressing these conflicts directly it suggests working toward making goals that are in line with shared values and beliefs. This method takes into account the diverse nature of human thought and tries to bring people together instead of making things worse between them.

But with a basic knowledge of how human minds and brains work,

we can take another approach, one that actually works. Because it’s not that people can’t change their political minds, it’s just that this is hard to do, and exposure to facts alone won’t do it. We need to change what people do with the facts we give them. 186

It recognizes that changing political views is hard and does more than just show facts. Instead, it stresses how important it is to change how people think about and interact with information. By understanding the mental and behavioral parts, we can come up with more effective methods that really change people's thoughts and actions. This shows how important it is to use behavioral concepts to make communication and persuasion methods that are more complex and successful.

When people don’t agree with us, and when they don’t change

their behaviors in the ways we’d like, we too often dismiss them as bull-headed, ignorant, or even stupid. We tell ourselves that they suffer from “false consciousness,” that they are blind to what is in their own self-interest. And so we speak louder, get more insistent, but still they don’t listen! Then, too often, we conclude that there’s no point trying to convince those who don’t agree with us and we give up. 211

Seeing different points of view as stupid or wrong and neglecting them. It makes us think about how dangerous it is to think that people who don't agree with us are instantly closed-minded or unable to see what's best for themselves. Instead, it tells us to think about how we're acting and realize that just getting louder or more demanding doesn't always work. By learning about how complicated people's views and motivations are, we can use more understanding and planned ways to interact with them that encourage real conversation and the chance for change. It stresses the value of not giving up on people who have different views and instead being persistent and open in your efforts to build bridges.

Ideas and awareness are important. That’s how people change

their minds and then take action. One requires the other, and getting people to think and talk about an issue is absolutely critical. But if it stops there, and stays at the level of changed consciousness, then nothing is ever going to change. We need to manifest general ideas into specific actions that can be visualized.  214

It  shows how important it is for opinions, awareness, and action to work together to make real change. It recognizes that starting a conversation and making people more aware of problems are important first steps, but they need to be followed by real actions to turn ideas into real results. Moving beyond just raising awareness to taking actual action is how people and groups can turn their ideals and beliefs into real change. This shows how important it is to not only raise knowledge but also encourage and make it easy for people to get involved in real ways to solve problems in society.
