Chapter 5
"What does any of this have to do with artistic activism and changing the world? Remember that one of our goals is to change the way people perceive and understand the world and their place within it. We want people to listen to what we have to say, see what we have to show them,and understand and accept the facts and perspectives we have to offer. There's all sorts of ways to do this, but if we want the highest chance of success -if we want to win- we need to know how people make sense of information so we don't go wasting our time and energy with approaches that won't work."
- We tend to forget that coming towards some blazing while trying to spread awareness and change will get them on our side, but in reality it does the opposite. Most people are ignorant about certain situations and just overall lack education. It's all about the approach and making people feel welcomed.
"Storytelling tactics are powerful and effective tools for artistic activists, but we need to go further. If we really want to bring about revolutions in thinking and being we need to disrupt the stories people already have and help to write new ones. This isn't easy. We are proposing a move from understanding and fitting into pre-existing mindsets to intervening in and, ideally, creating new ways of understanding the world. But we can do it, because we have a secret weapon."
- Telling a story help people to relate, especially towards your cause. When having a passion story link together to whichever cause makes people want to help you move forward for the greater good. Especially when it comes to someone who's already have a mindset, coming at them with deep meaningful story help them look at a different perspective.
Chapter 6
"Ideas and awareness are important. That's how people change their minds and then take action. One requires the
other,and geting people to think and talk about an issue is absolutely critical. But if
it stops there, and stays at the level of changed consciousness, then if nothing is ever going to change. We need to manifest general ideas into specific actions that can be visualized and thus enacted."
-For movements to take off and for things to be done people have to keep pushing forward. People forget that just sharing a post or reposting something is the only thing they can do, it's not. By not continuing that's how important movements are forgotten about and people move on.
"AS ARTISTIC ACTIVISTS we need to always think of our audience. These are the people we hope our message will reach, and whose behavior we want to change. Yet, all too often, our audience is the last thing we think of. While we might envisage the things our pieces will
make people feel, think, and do, the identity of our audience often remains elusive.
-An audience is the most important part of a movement that seems to be left last on the list. We must connect with our audience and give voices to people in the audience that can relate to whichever cause. In a movement, people tend to forget that we are united together, it's not just one person.
This picture caught my attention due to it being an example of the Matlock Method. Which about a fold-out table that has stacks of flyers, book, and reports that's there to convince people about what's going on. How it's a common approach to both activism and political art. I have seen people use this technique all the time with different types of reason and causes. I can use this technique for my final invention due it being an eye grabber and I can get people attention to them them being curious what's the flyers about.
