Chapter5 and 6

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” (chapter 5, pg. 171)

This quote is so true many people complain about the wrongful doings of the world and what they don’t like. People fail to realize that the change has to happen within themselves first. You can’t keep waiting for the world to change you have to change first. Once people start worrying about themselves and changing for the better more will do the same.  It’s like telling somebody to do better with their life when they not doing better themselves.

“Researchers have also found that we tend to only consider information that fits into what we already believe.” (Chapter 5, pg. 184)

This is true so many people stay stuck in a mindset where they don’t have room to grow. They are the type of people who think they know it all when they don’t. Stuff like this is not good. After all, that’s why we have so much ignorance in the world because people are not willing to grow out of the mindset they are stuck in. I was the type of person who used to think people wanted to be drug addicts and I used to look down on them like they were no good at a very young age. Until I got older and was willing to intake the information that people don’t want to be drug addicts. It’s mostly used as a coping method to get away from their pain.

"Promotion is bread and butter for artistic activism, but it's important to think about how to do it in such a way that it inspires action." (chapter 6 pg.218)

This statement is saying that it's more to just promoting your cause or attention seeking. It's more of trying to get people motivated to support and participate in your cause. You'll have to strategically think about the way you promote your cause. Just like that one anti-nicotine commercial, where the girl missed an important game because she couldn't find her vape. Which led her teammates, coach, and others disappointed.

" As artistic activist, we need to always think of our audience." (Chapter 6 pg. 235)

Thinking about your audience will determine how effective your message is. Knowing your audience would guide you to resonate with them and get them to be engaged. Also, make sure you don't exclude anybody. Being able to have your audience connect with your cause can lead to the changes you're fighting for and want others to fight for.

I chose this picture to refer to the second quote," Researchers have also found that we tend to only consider information that fits into what we already believe." Once people are set in their ways, they feel like they know it all as if they are unteachable. This is why people are loud and wrong the best thing to do is to keep putting out information. We can't always change people's minds but at least we are putting something out there for them to gain some knowledge and maybe reconsider.
