Chapters 5 and 6

Chapter 5

The more scientists have studied how the mind works, the more they've come to realize that those very affective qualities of the arts that move us, things like compelling narratives, shocking spectacles, or radical shifts in perspective, are essential to how we think - and to how we might think differently.“

This is a very interesting quote because it mostly highlights about the intersection of science and art. It suggests that qualities are mainly associated with art, just like the compelling narratives and radical shifts into perspective. This is what is very crucial into understanding how the mind really works

“If you want to change the world, and want the world we create to last, then our analysis, plans, and actions need to have solid foundations in facts. Our issue is not with facts themselves, but with the assumption that facts are sufficient. It's too often believed by activists that if people just had access to the same information that we do, they would become aware and act on that awareness. So we supply access: problem solved.”

This quote really just emphasizes basing efforts to make a good change for the world. What I mean with this is yes facts are very crucial but simply providing information is really the way to go. You need to make them deeply understand what you are trying to imply to them. Simply proving access to the information is not enough, what is required though is analysis, planning and action.

“Information only makes sense when linked with other information. In order to recall, understand, or use ideas, we need to be able to attach them to other ideas. In other words, we need to be able to put information into context through associative webs of meaning. And these associations are not random; they are ordered.”

This quote is an extension to the quote above but what it’s trying to say is highlighting the context and association of anything is important for utilizing information effectively.

Chapter 6

“ When people don't agree with us, and when they don't change their behaviors in the ways we'd like, we too often dismiss them as bull-headed, ignorant, or even stupid.

This quote right here is very true. People will try their hardest to make their opinion into a fact and once they fail to do that they will blame you for being “simple minded”, “stupid”, “unable to think for yourself”, etc. They will try their hardest to paint themselves the one in the correct

“We all know that marketing is manipulation. It fuels capitalism through excessive consumption, fostering dissatisfaction and destroying the Earth. But we have tremendous respect for the intelligence and artistry of marketers, despite being horrified by what the marketing industry uses these talents for.”

The only thing company’s care about is how much money are going in their pocket so during ads they will try anything they can do to make you buy their product. They won’t care who they make fun all they care about is your money only not even you.

“Promotion, of course, is key for any marketing campaign. Why would anyone buy a product or service they'd never heard of? Consumer goods are promoted on television, radio, the internet, and billboards and signs. How can we get our messages in front of our audience?

What sources of media are favored by our audience? What kind of publicity will help us reach this audience?”

Promotion is very good for any type of marketing. Usually what they would do is pay a very well known person and make them act like they have used their product for some time and recommend it to other people. Since the people love that person they will usually listen to them and try and product out.

This is what I love about our imagination. It can take a few pictures and form a story in your head. What I see is someone very sad because their plate is empty but once they see the hamburger they start smiling because it’s food that they can eat.
